Funeral arrangements set for Mo Babi, Colorado state leader and active mat official, in Denver on Friday
By Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling | April 11, 2019, 12:19 p.m. (ET)
USA Wrestling is sad to report the passing of Mohammadi (Mo) Babi, 72, of Denver, Colo., a longtime state leader in Colorado and an accomplished mat official, who passed away earlier this week.
Mo made a big impact on wrestling in his state but also on a national level, and has wrestling friends all around the nation.
The following information is the point of contact for the Mo Babi funeral:
Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery
8600 E Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231
The funeral will be a traditional Muslim graveside service on Friday, 12 April, at 2:30 p.m. MT. This is a time change from the first posting!!! The service is open to anyone wishing to attend.
Mo served a number of terms as the state chairperson of Colorado USA Wrestling. He was also a mat official, who regularly worked national, regional and local competitions, as well as some international events which were held in the USA. Babi also served on a number of USA Wrestling committees, helping grow and improve the organization in many areas. Most recently, Mo served as the Southern Plains representative to the Kids/Cadet Council Executive Committee.
He helped found the Cadet National Duals event, which was created in Colorado and grew to become one of the organization's top age-group competitions. The concept of bringing state association teams together for dual meet tournaments has become one of the organization's signature event activities.
The Babi family has been very active in USA Wrestling in many ways. His wife Pat, who was with Mo for 46 years, was an nationally respective pairings official and involved in Colorado USA Wrestling in a variety of leadership areas. His son Jason is an international mat official, and also involved as a state association leader, including serving as the state chairperson of Colorado USA Wrestling.
Mo's leadership and commitment to USA Wrestling and the sport has impacted the lives of thousands of wrestlers and their families.
Sympathy Cards and Memorials should be sent to Mr. Rod Cozzetto, 709 Crystal Lane, Pueblo CO 81006
